Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City will compete in the Championship this weekend, with both teams hoping to win all three points.
Sheffield Wednesday will face Stoke City this weekend, hoping to maintain their recent excellent run and advance to the play-offs.
After losing to Blackburn Rovers, the Owls recovered with a 3-1 away victory over Oxford United. The victory places Steel City 9th in the Championship table and led to Des Buckingham’s resignation.
However, the big news coming into the game is the persistent links between manager Danny Rohl and the recently vacant role at Premier League club Southampton.
Stoke City continue to struggle. They have struggled to establish form under Narcis Pelach, and while there is some tolerance with the Spaniard following his awkwardly placed appointment, his current form is worrying.
The Potters drew at Cardiff City, breaking a record of three consecutive defeats, but are currently seven games without a league win.
As a result, they are 17th in the table, five points above the drop.
Here are some of our writers’ predictions for the game.
James Ray
Sheffield Wednesday should focus on the task at hand, despite ongoing Rohl rumours. Although losing him would be devastating, they must remain focused on the upcoming Stoke City showdown.
“It’s another winnable game for the Owls, as the Potters have still to find their feet under Pelach, and some are questioning whether moving Schumacher on for the Spaniard was the right decision.
“Another defeat here would put that to the forefront, which I can see happening.
“I’ll be backing Wednesday to win this one 2-1.”
Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Stoke City
Harry Mail
“Rohl has done an impressive job with Sheffield Wednesday since taking over, and his side will quietly assess their chances of a push for the play-offs if they keep up their consistency levels.”
Stoke City’s season has been dismal, and a loss at Hillsborough could increase pressure on Pelach. Earlier this season, their decision to fire Steven Schumacher drew criticism.
“I can see this one being a close game in the end but I fancy the hosts to sneak a win.”
