Liverpool’s Scottish international Ben Doak is a big hit at Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough’s young sensation Ben Doak has been told he has the talent to play at the top level with Liverpool, and the best place to learn is the Riverside Stadium. The 19-year-old Scotland international has been a huge success at Boro after joining on a season-long loan from Liverpool.
So far, the deal has worked brilliantly for both clubs. Michael Carrick has signed a young attacking midfielder with a bold mentality and undeniable talent to bolster his offensive options, while Liverpool manager Arne Slot is watching one of his highly touted young stars develop week after week in the tough Championship battle.
Doak’s Boro contribution, as well as his recent display for Scotland, have further added to Liverpool’s optimism over the youthful prospect. Stephen Warnock, a former Reds player, believes the teenager will reach the pinnacle of his career while playing at Anfield, but he also believes Doak is in the best possible position to advance.
Warnock told BetMGM, “I think it’s the perfect move for him at the moment. He needed to go and play first team football.” Playing in the under 23s or 21s was far too easy for him, and in order to progress as a player, he needs to face more competent defenders, seasoned pros who understand how to play against pace, which he will find in the Championship.
“He is so swift and direct that it was exciting to watch him play for the Scottish national team against Josko Gvardiol when they faced Croatia. He is Manchester City’s first-choice left defender, and he tore him apart, which will have given him a lot of confidence, but he must be able to do it consistently if he wants to play for Liverpool. That’s the step forward you must be able to take as a young professional.
“His loan to Middlesbrough will have no negative impact on him. It is an excellent opportunity to develop under a young manager that values his young potential, and it will allow Slot to see how he performs at a higher level. On the other hand, your body must expand and adapt to the physically demanding nature of men’s football. He may sustain the occasional injury over the season, or he may be perfectly OK with it. But he’ll learn a lot about himself as a player this season, and he certainly has the talent to play at the highest level for Liverpool.
