“I’m going” – Player drops claim on his Sunderland AFC exit

In any situation, but particularly in football, changes in leadership frequently result in casualties. Before settling on

their present head coach Regis Le Bris, with whom they will be extremely delighted, Sunderland fired three first-

team managers in a single season, none of them were permanent.

When new managers take over, there’s always a chance that they won’t like particular players that their predecessors

brought in; this has frequently happened with Le Bris. Adil Aouchiche, Abdoullah Ba, and Nazariy Rusyn, among

others, have all had difficulty playing for the first squad. Only because of the injuries of others have any of them

played under this new system.

Pierre Ekwah, a midfielder who would have been regarded as a bright spot under the previous administration, left

for St Etienne in the summer after falling so far down the hierarchy.

Those four were not too dissimilar from Pembélé’s circumstances. He had little chance of playing again, and when he

learnt about the opportunity with Ba’s old team, Le Havre, he jumped at the chance to return to France.

Timothée Pembélé makes Sunderland AFC exit revelation

When the French team called this summer, the 22-year-old defender, who was acquired by Sunderland from Paris

Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023 under Tony Mowbray, stated that it didn’t take him long to decide he wanted

to leave the northeast.

“I truly didn’t think that HAC would come looking for me!” he said to Paris Normadie. I assumed I’d return to Ligue

2 because I wasn’t playing in England’s second tier.

“In today’s game, a player who doesn’t play is quickly forgotten, but I have faith in myself and feel I can play in Ligue 1.

“I immediately said, ‘Let’s go!'” when my agent informed me that Le Havre was interested in me. I told myself, “I’m

going, I’m fighting, and we’ll see what happens,” without checking my position in the hierarchy.

“The transaction ultimately took some time. The coach welcomed me and told me that I needed to regain my rhythm

when I signed in the last days of the window.

“So, I participated in one game with the backups. I was tired of playing with younger guys after playing a lot of games

with the reserves in England. However, I was informed by the coach that I needed to play for ninety minutes in order

to establish a rhythm. It was one thing after another after that.

Pembélé also acknowledged that, in contrast to the more consistent playing time he currently receives with Le Havre,

he wasn’t enjoying football as much while he was at Sunderland.

The former PSG defender went on to say, “I wasn’t that I’d lost it, but I was in a different mindset.” “Going to

training wasn’t as enjoyable because I wasn’t playing.

“I was going to training for myself, because I needed to keep up a rhythm, because there was surely a project waiting for me.”

Sunderland must put plans in place for a potential Timothee Pembele summer exit

The 22-year-old’s eyes have likely been opened by this loan move that playing frequently is preferable to sitting on

the bench or in the reserves and that a future with Sunderland may not be the greatest option for him.

Sunderland has to start making measures that will enable him to depart permanently in the summer, provided all

sides agree, since they must realise how much more he is enjoying himself back in France than he was on Wearside.

He signed a contract that calls for him to remain at the Stadium of Light until 2028 after being purchased for an

undisclosed sum. If he keeps doing well in Ligue 1, they should be able to make a decent return on their investment.
