”I made it clear” – Johannes Hoff Thorup breaks silence on post-match Norwich City, Burnley incident.
Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup does not expect any sanctions after his team’s post-match brawl with Burnley on Sunday.
The normal ritual following a game was in full flow and running nicely. Both sets of players applauded their respective supporters as Scott Parker’s Clarets won 2-1 at Carrow Road, but the game did not conclude peacefully. Words appeared to be exchanged between the two squads, and a pushing match rapidly ensued, requiring the sides to be separated before returning down the tunnel.
Johannes Hoff Thorup reacts to Norwich v Burnley post-game incident
Norwich have had more FA encounters than they would have liked this season. Kenny McLean, in example, has received two four-match bans this season, one for violent behaviour and one for comments made to officials following his red card against Middlesbrough.
Thorup doesn’t expect another suspension from the sport’s regulatory body following this recent incident. He stated, via Pink Un, “There was nothing in it.” A small amount of pushing and emotion are required. And I believe you can kill that in football. It’s also what keeps us going in this job and brings us to the stadium every weekend to watch football because of the emotions. “From what I witnessed, there was nothing to it; it was simply players becoming upset after a football game. “I did not hear anything. I just saw some of the guys’ reactions.
“Of course, there are frustrations and emotions in a game like this, and talking to the boys in the locker room afterwards, you know, many emotions in the room, because a lot of the players thought we did well for 60 percent, 70 percent of the game, and then we still went home with no points. It’s something we must learn to deal with. “I made it plain that I don’t want to see such reactions out there. We must act regardless of whether we win or lose; I am not claiming that we started. “I couldn’t see from my position.”but we just support each other out there, we support a teammate by dragging him away, and make sure that we avoid it, because otherwise we just end up with more suspensions, and to stay on track we can’t get away with three or four suspensions.”
More suspensions are the last thing Norwich need now
The Danish manager has had a difficult start to his first season in English football. The injury bug has done everything possible to derail Norwich’s season. They’ve already been without some key players, most notably Josh Sargent, for significant chunks of the season. Even yet, City isn’t far from the top six, but more player absences, particularly from punishment, would be the most frustration for Thorup.
Injuries might occur unexpectedly. It’s a part of football, and it’s not always preventable. Suspensions, however, may be avoided, and by the time his current penalty expires, Norwich will have already lost McLean for 35% of the season. If they want to keep their playoff dreams alive, they must put these trivial problems behind them.
