Contact made: Ipswich now want to sign “clinical” new forward in January, agent expects a move.

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna is looking for a new striker to keep the club in the Premier League this winter. They have contacted a potential target.

Ipswich relies on Delap.

Liam Delap has been one of Portman Road’s biggest success stories since his arrival in the summer. The former Manchester City youth product arrived in a £15 million trade and has been instrumental in Ipswich’s early season success, scoring six goals and providing an assist in 16 appearances.

He has twice as many goals as anyone else on the Tractor Boys team (Sammie Szmodics has three), and only Leif Davis and Jack Clarke have more assists than the 21-year-old attacker.

However, Delap cannot be Ipswich’s sole goalscorer, and the club is already planning a game without him after he received his fifth yellow card, which will result in his suspension for their match against Newcastle.

Meanwhile, his appearance has not gone overlooked. Chelsea are reportedly interested in the promising forward. Worse, Manchester City has a buy-back clause for the 21-year-old, which means Pep Guardiola’s side might re-sign him for a low amount in the future.

With all of this in mind, it’s no surprise that Ipswich are considering various options for upgrading Ali Al-Hamadi at Portman Road, including revisiting an old target.

Ipswich make contact to sign the Championship striker.

According to sources in Italy, Ipswich Town has approached Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath about a potential January transfer to East Anglia. McKenna attempted to sign the 25-year-old forward last summer but was unsuccessful.

Boro’s number nine has scored eight goals in 21 Championship matches since then, propelling Michael Carrick’s team into the playoffs.

Despite having two and a half years left on his £10,000 per week contract at the Riverside, the striker’s agent predicted a January transfer.

“He is back to scoring. Eight goals in the first half of the tournament, and we expect something to happen in January. He’s a striker, and strikers are always in demand in the January transfer window,” he explained.

Ipswich are one of two Premier League teams that have “asked for information” on the striker, who was termed “clinical” earlier this year for his precise finish.

Ipswich would be wise to sign Latte Lath, who has a proven track record of scoring goals and is eager to make an impression in the Premier League. Not only would it provide McKenna with more alternatives this season, but it would also futureproof the Portman Road club in case another team wanted to sign Delap in the future.
