Sunderland had a long list of managerial candidates before signing Regis Le Bris this summer.

Will Still was said to have accepted terms with Sunderland before stepping out, while Liam Rosenior was on the verge of earning the job before also withdrawing.
Meanwhile, former Feyenoord manager Pascal Jansen was extensively connected with Sunderland before surprising everyone and accepting the Ferencvaros position in Hungary. Danny Rohl, another European manager, was linked to the Stadium of Light.

However, an emerging rumour from Sky Sports indicates that Rohl is being considered for the vacant Southampton job, following Russell Martin’s dismissal on Sunday.
