Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, has acknowledged that the team has been severely impacted by the
injuries to players like Ireland international Chiedozie Ogben and will have to make a move next month.
Ogbene’s season-ending Achilles injury interrupted his Premier League campaign after only five games, which was a
major setback for McKenna.
It has been difficult. We have failed to settle on a team. The loss of Axel (Tuanzebe) and Chieo (Ogbene) is
undoubtedly felt on the right side right now. The Fermanagh native remarked, “It’s such an important side of the
team for us,” but he was also impressed by the contribution of Ogbene’s countryman Jack Taylor, who last week
scored his first Premier League goal for the squad.
We feel their absence because of the physicality those two provide to the world’s most physical league during the
season’s most physically demanding month.
“Although there have been other disruptions, this is what they are. We concentrate on the players we have.
“In general, the players who have joined the team perform well in this setting. In the match against Bournemouth,
Jack Taylor set an excellent example.
“We’re doing our best to cope with that and adjust as best we can, but we’d like to have had better availability
throughout the season. In my opinion, the players are generally performing admirably in that regard.
Our success over the past two seasons has been greatly attributed to having a large number of forwards available to
rotate. We want to make those positions as strong as possible and to be at full quota with those as frequently as
possible.
“We need to strengthen them in the January window, as we attempted to do in the summer window.”
Meanwhile, Blackpool manager Steve Bruce says that Irish defender Andy Lyons will be “like a new signing” when he
returns from a long-term injury. Lyons, a former Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians player, has been out since sustaining an ACL damage in February.
However, he was cleared to resume team training last week, ending a protracted period of confinement to the gym.
Bruce says, “He’s making big progress, which is good.” We’re praying that he returns safely because I’ve witnessed
him work extremely hard on the training field.
On the grass, he’s participating in bits and pieces. He and Elkan (Baggott) will be like a couple of fresh signings because I haven’t actually seen them train.
