Police say Norwich City’s Flynn Clarke drove recklessly before of the A47 crash.

Police have slammed a football player for driving “incredibly stupidly” and imprisoned him for critically injuring three people.

Flynn Clarke, a 20-year-old Norwich City midfielder, pleaded guilty to the allegations and was sentenced to one year in prison on Friday.

According to Cambridgeshire Police, nitrous oxide canisters were located in the vehicle as he drove to a festival.

According to PC Alex Thomas, the collision on the A47 near Peterborough “could have been much worse”.

‘Unnecessary crash’

Clarke, a 19-year-old male passenger from Plumstead Road, Thorpe End, Norwich, and a 19-year-old female passenger had minor injuries, while two additional 19-year-old men in the back seat suffered significant injuries.

The 59-year-old motorhome driver was gravely injured, and his 60-year-old female passenger was only slightly damaged.

Both the driver and the passenger of the Land Rover were uninjured.

“Clarke drove extremely stupidly that day and caused an unnecessary crash that left six people, including four of his friends, injured,” said PC Thomas.

“I hope he has learnt a lesson by seeing the consequences of driving so dangerously.”

Clarke has not played in the first team since moving to City from Peterborough United two years prior. “Internally in accordance with its own disciplinary procedure” is the club’s assessment of the circumstances.

Earlier this month he was loaned to the National League’s Dagenham & Redbridge for the season in east London.
