Sheffield Wednesday have two choices when it comes to the remainder of Bailey Cadamarteri’s season.
The 19-year-old has had a fairly successful loan spell with Lincoln City in the first half of the 2024/25 season, scoring seven goals in all competitions thus far; however, his game time has been limited, with only one of his 23 appearances totaling 90 minutes.
Neither Danny Röhl nor Imps manager Michael Skubala have appeared unduly concerned about the situation, despite some fans’ want to see him start more games, and a choice taken in August means that there aren’t many options.
“Players may register with a maximum of three teams in a single season. During this time, the player is only permitted to play official matches for two clubs, according to FIFA’s regulations.
“As an exception to this rule, a player who moves between two clubs in associations with overlapping seasons (i.e., the season begins in summer/autumn rather than winter/spring) may be eligible to play in official matches for a third club during the relevant season, provided he has fully complied with his contractual obligations to his previous clubs.” Similarly, the regulations governing registration periods and the minimum length of a contract must be followed.
Cadamarteri’s appearance in the Carabao Cup triumph over Hull City means he has already played for two clubs this season. Therefore, he cannot be recalled from his Lincoln loan to join another team. He can only play for the Owls or Imps.
Skubala recently stated that Wednesday were pleased with how things were going at Sincil Bank, implying that there was no concern about him being pulled back, and with his gametime likely to be even more limited at S6 behind the likes of Michael Smith and Iké Ugbo, it would seem logical to leave things as they are.
