Denmark desperate to overcome Portugal and avoid ‘difficult’ Scotland
Denmark manager Brian Riemer has identified Scotland as one of the most difficult nations they could have drawn in the World Cup draw.
Scotland will face the loser of the Denmark v Portugal UEFA Nations League play-off in March, with the Portuguese being the clear favorites to advance. However, new Danish manager Riemer believes that being matched with Scotland if they lose has given them a another incentive to win and advance to a different group.
He stated, “There were two teams I did not want to be drawn with in the pots: Scotland and Hungary.
“They were the most challenging team we could have drawn from pot three.” And we know they can hurt teams, especially at home.
“They have a lot of talent and play terrific football, and the same goes for Hungary, so we wanted to avoid those countries.
“But my work over the next few months will be 99.8 percent focused on Portugal.
“We genuinely want to get past them, and the draw provides us a more reason to win.
“So at the moment, we’re using all our energy to figure out how we can progress in the Nations League.”
