CHRISTMAS WEEK OF GIVING | SWANSEA CITY HOST CHRISTMAS DINNER FOR SENIORS LIKELY TO BE ALONE AT CHRISTMAS
In order to provide seniors who are likely to spend Christmas alone with a complimentary three-course Christmas
supper, Swansea City first team players partnered with Home Instead’s ‘Be Santa to a Senior’ campaign.
Nearly 30 seniors, many of whom have been Jacks for their whole lives, gathered for a complimentary three-course
lunch prepared by Swans head chef Chris Watkins and his staff at the club’s Fairwood Training Ground.
Arthur David and I.G. Mooney Butchers gave away free food, and Turners Coachways gave away free transport to the
training area to people in need. Westacres supplied decorations to give the occasion a bit more joyous atmosphere.
The fact that the waiters were first-team players Liam Cullen, Cyrus Christie, Jon McLaughlin, and Harry Darling
gave the guests a unique surprise as well. They engaged in conversation with their patrons in between courses.
“Meeting everyone has been a lot of fun,” Darling remarked. It has been enjoyable for me and the lads who have
participated, and it has been pleasant to speak with everyone briefly.
David was one of the older members, having recently turned 101 and having served in the army. Despite his many
travels, David feels that Southgate, Swansea is the best place in the world.
He enjoys meeting new people, so he and many of the other invitees enjoyed the chance to catch up over Christmas
lunch, even if they might go days or even weeks without seeing anyone.
The Swans play a significant role in the lives of many of the residents here, according to Kate Webb, marketing
manager for Home Instead Swansea. Meeting new people and the members of the squad they have been following
for decades has been an incredible experience.
We appreciate the assistance with the event provided by Arthur David, I.G. Mooney Butchers, Turners Coachways, and Westacres.
