Antonio Pierce on 10th consecutive loss: ‘We need a break, we need a prayer
In their 15-9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night, the Las Vegas Raiders attempted two Hail Mary passes. Each remained unanswered.
Falcons safetyJessie Bates intercepted Desmond Ridder’s last-second prayer, leading to the Raiders’ 10th consecutive loss.
“We need to take a break and pray…” “It just didn’t go our way,” Raiders coach Antonio Pierce told The Athletic. “The guys are all in, but we’re not winning. I’m not sure what else to tell you; we’re just not winning. So, do I want to win? Hell yeah, I want to win. Do I want to keep looking at the same item every week and having the same conversation with you all? No.”
The Raiders, without Maxx Crosby and on their third starting quarterback, had a slim chance of winning the game. They can appreciate the Falcons’ offensive struggles for keeping things close.
The Raiders’ offence struggled to move the ball for long minutes, turning it over three times, and getting stuffed for a safety. Vegas generated 96 total net yards in their first ten possessions. The special teams were a complete disaster, with two blocked punts, a blocked point after effort, and a fair received punt at the 3-yard line that resulted in a safety.
“Bad day at the office, really bad day at the office,” Pierce told me. “We need all three phases to play well.”
The Raiders’ 10-game losing streak is the longest this season and tied for the second-longest in franchise history (13 games in 1962).
Pierce’s team continues to fight, but mental mistakes, poor coaching decisions, play calls, and a lack of playmaking continue to sink the ship.”We’ll keep fighting,” Pierce said. “It’s a blue-collar group. It’s just not going our way … we understand where we are at and we’re fighting for each other. These guys just showed you, going down to score and giving us a chance to win.”
