Ireland and Leinster handed further boost as ‘outstanding world-class talent’ re-signs

Leinster and Ireland fans have received a double sizeable boost as Tadhg Furlong’s new contract was followed by news that Andrew Porter has inked an extension.

The loosehead prop has signed a new two-year contract that keeps him with his province and the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) until July 2027.
Porter, 28, who started all 11 of Ireland’s Tests in 2024, has established himself as an important member of Andy Farrell’s excellent side.

Double prop boost

His long-term commitment to Irish rugby is a significant boost ahead of the 2025 Six Nations, given this deal was revealed on the same day as Furlong’s extension.

Porter made his Test debut against the USA in 2017 and has since earned 70 caps, winning three Six Nations titles and competing in the 2019 and 2023 World Cups.

He’s made 128 appearances for Leinster since his senior debut in September 2016, earning four PRO12/PRO14 titles and the Champions Cup while scoring 18 tries.

“Playing in Ireland is something that I never take for granted and I am delighted to commit my future to my home province Leinster and Ireland,” said Porter with enthusiasm.

“There is a lot of talent coming through the system at the provincial and international levels, and it’s an honour to work with such a bright group of coaches and players.

“I believe that the level of competition will drive us all on as we bid for success in the months and years to come and I am proud that I will have the chance to be a play in the Irish system for the next number of seasons.”

David Humphreys, IRFU Performance Director, praised Porter’s consistency at the elite level and expressed excitement about seeing him take his “next steps forward”.

‘World-class talent’

“Andrew is an outstanding world-class talent and it is a huge statement of intent that he has committed his future to both Leinster and the IRFU,” said the coach.
“He has regularly performed well for both club and country, and his endurance means he is an important figure in Irish rugby and will be for the next several seasons.

“We are delighted that Andrew has signed a new deal and look forward to him taking the next steps forward in his career in the years to come.”
