Sheehan and Peskett react as Town Women progress in FA Cup

Sophie Peskett’s lone goal was sufficient for Town Women to defeat the league-bottom Cherries.

Peskett’s late goal in the first half was the only difference in the close match at the Martello Ground.

“We knew what we were going to face, and it was a battle today,” she added. We didn’t undervalue them, even though

we knew they would be game.

“We had quite a lot of chances today but the ball just didn’t seem to go in and at times you do think it might not be

your day.”

“They are a team in such good form,” stated Town Manager Joe Sheehan. We knew they would be up for it because I

don’t believe they have lost a league game in a few years.

“They gave us a really good challenge and whilst we won the game by a fine score, we did have the opportunities to

put the game to bed.”

Due to this outcome, Town Women will go to Manchester to play City, who are ranked second in the first league and

have players like Lauren Hemp and Chloe Kelly. It’s going to be a unique occasion,” Sheehan stated.

“There might have been ties that needed less planning and preparation.

“We know how challenging it is going to be, but for a change, it’s going to be us that’s got nothing to lose.

“It’s an opportunity for us to see how far we’ve grown and it’s an opportunity to see our level and what we still need

to work on.” Town last faced Man City in 2020, when they lost 10-0.

“I think there will be some good takeaways for us if we can see signs of growth and be more competitive in the game,”

Sheehan stated after the really difficult lesson we learned the last time. “We are really looking forward to it.”

One of the Town players who participated in the previous encounter between the two teams, Peskett, continued: “I

was still in school when we played Man City last. Since then, I’ve experienced a lot.

“Now that we have more money and support from the club, everyone is eagerly anticipating it, and we are thrilled.

“We have still got a league run to focus on as well so that’s important to focus on also.”
