‘It wasn’t a game I liked to see’: Reading boss on comfortable defeat to Blackpool

Reading boss Noel Hunt was not impressed with a lot of what he saw as Blackpool inflicted his first defeat as permanent manager, winning 3-0 at the SCL Stadium.

Goals by Albie Morgan, Rob Apter, and Ashley Fletcher marked the club’s first home defeat since September, as well as its first under playing great Hunt, who drew 1-1 at Wycombe Wanderers the previous week.

The Royals were second best throughout, but they did not get a lot of support from officials.

Following the defeat, Hunt said: ”

We may go back and analyze it all we want, but in the end, we were not good enough. I felt there were times in the game when we had a great opportunity before their goal. If you look at their goal, the lad is offside from the goal kick, which is not given. We do not win the ball from the knockdown, and they score with a long-range shot. We were a little slow on the day and took too many strokes at times, but this is a young bunch.

“In the second half, we must continue to believe in what we are doing.” I felt like we went back into our shells. I wanted them to increase the tempo.

“The pen is a pen.” It was a stonewall penalty. I don’t understand what he saw. The fourth official confirmed it to me, and their management stated that it is a penalty all day. I don’t understand how these huge mistakes go unnoticed, costing us a chance to reclaim the lead in the game.

“The last goal was a mistake on our part, not a fantastic play that benefited us. “They are young players who are learning, and we will move on.”
