Hillwalker airlifted to Edinburgh hospital as emergency services race to Pentlands

The mountain rescue team and ambulance crews rushed to the West Kip in the Pentland Hills before the casualty was evacuated by an air ambulance, which was sent from Glasgow to help.

An injured hillwalker was taken to a hospital on Saturday morning after emergency services were dispatched to the area.

At around 12.07pm, Police Scotland dispatched the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team to assist a hillwalker who had suffered a lower leg injury while walking in the Pentland Hills.
The mountain rescue squad and medical crews hurried to the West Kip before the victim was evacuated by an air ambulance aircraft from Glasgow.
At around 2.50pm, an Edinburgh resident noticed an air ambulance flying over the city towards the Royal Infirmary.
The Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue team stated, “The team was called out by Police Scotland Lothians & Scottish Borders at 12.07pm today to assist a walker with a lower leg injury on West Kip in the Pentland Hills Regional Park.”

“Working with our colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service SORT team, we reached the casualty and ‘packaged’ them in our stretcher for evacuation by the Scottish Air Ambulance Helimed 5 from Glasgow.” “All done and off the hill by 3.34pm.”
