Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is set to undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee to address an ailment that was likely to hold him out for the third time in four games, according to two people familiar with the decision who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The same knee required surgery last season for a ruptured ACL, but the ligament is still intact, according to the sources.
Diggs was ruled out of Sunday’s game against Carolina (3-10), and the Cowboys (5-8) confirmed that the 2021 All-Pro will not travel.
Diggs, 26, had missed two games this season due to groin and knee issues before returning for the Cowboys’ 27-20 loss to Cincinnati on Monday night. He also experienced foot and ankle issues earlier this year. Last year, Diggs missed the final 15 games of the season due to an ACL tear sustained during practice.
Diggs will be the third Dallas starter to have season-ending surgery, following quarterback Dak Prescott (torn hamstring) and seven-time All-Pro lineman Zack Martin (ankle).
