Daniel Farke may regret starting Joel Piroe against Preston North End on the basis of what happened for Leeds United in the win over Middlesbrough.

The Whites manager has named his side for the trip to Deepdale on Saturday (14 December), making two changes from the win against Boro last time out.

This has seen the Dutchman return to the starting XI, while Mateo Joseph has dropped to the bench in what could prove to be a mistake.

Joel Piroe starts for Leeds United v Preston North End

The 25-year-old was out of the side at Elland Road versus Boro as the Spain Under-21s international came in and was unable to get on the scoresheet.

Despite this, his pace and energy in around the Middlesbrough defence was able to cause problems throughout and have and impact.

This eventually allowed Piroe to come on against a tiring defence and make a difference as he grabbed an assist for Dan James’ strike.

This could have proved to be a useful game plan against Preston who are likely to sit back and look to frustrate Leeds as much as possible.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side will be tough to break down and having the flair and explosiveness of Joseph may have proved to be useful.

Farke has opted to start with the Dutchman, who will have to be on top of his game in front of goal and creatively to help breach the home side’s back line.
