Rovers stood fourth in Division Two when they made the trip to Burnley on Boxing Day during the 1977/78 season.

Burnley were at the wrong end of the table and Rovers put the game beyond them as they raced into a 3-0 half time lead.

David Wagstaffe netted in the third minute after getting on the end of Noel Brotherston cross.

A second goal followed from Keith Fear in the 29th minute, and it was 3-0 at the interval as Noel Brotherston scored.

Fear then had a penalty saved in the second half before Tony Morley and Peter Noble pulled two goals back for Burnley.
