Rangers reject £4.5m MLS bid for Dessers.
Rangers of the Scottish Premiership have turned down three proposals for Super Eagles attacker Cyriel Dessers, including a £4.5 million approach from Major League Soccer club Atlanta United, according to Punch Sports Extra. The Ibrox club, who signed Dessers for £6 million, including £1.5 million in add-ons already paid, is unwilling to sell their in-form striker for less than their initial investment. Dessers has been in excellent form this season, scoring four goals in five games and establishing himself as one of Scotland’s most prolific strikers, second only to Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement said the club would only accept offers much higher than their £6 million investment, with bids expected to exceed £8 million for the Belgian-born Nigerian international. Rangers’ lack of attacking options complicates matters, as Hamza Igamane and Danilo have yet to establish themselves as credible alternatives to Dessers. Dessers has been a vital part of Clement’s team, making him nearly indispensable to the Glasgow side’s current season, despite receiving criticism early in his Rangers tenure, with some fans calling him a ‘donkey’.
With Dessers established as Rangers’ primary striker and showing consistent form, the club’s decision to reject Atlanta United’s bid suggests they are determined to retain his services unless a substantially higher offer is received.
