Cardiff City striker out for rest of year with ‘very strange injury’ as new transfer problem emerges
A recent report on injuries could have an impact on transfers in the following year.
Roko Simic will be out for the rest of 2024 and possibly past January as a result of KV Kortrijk’s discussions with Cardiff City regarding a possible loan recall, according to manager Freyr Alexandersson.
Simic was loaned to Vincent Tan’s KV Kortrijk shortly after joining the Bluebirds from RB Salzburg
in the closing moments of the transfer window.
Prior to returning and staking his claim for Cardiff’s starting striker spot in the 2025–2026 season, the Croatia youth
international was targeted for a successful season-long loan, similar to the one Isaak Davies had there the previous
season.
However, thus far, the 21-year-old’s loan experience has been a disaster. He has only made one start, participated in
four games overall, and has yet to score a goal. The forward has missed the last four games due to an injury, the
specifics of which have not yet been made public. Over the next few weeks and possibly months, that number is
expected to increase.
Simic will not play in Saturday’s match against Dender until the new year, according to Alexandersson. Additionally,
he acknowledged that there is talk about sending him back to South Wales.
It’s a shame for all concerned. Cardiff wanted their new striker to have a season of regular football under his belt,
while Kortrijk thought they were getting a forward who could aid their plight after battling relegation last term.
And Alexandersson understands Kortrijk fans’ frustrations, too.
Alexandersson remarked, “Yeah, and then you get nothing,” in reference to the excitement and anticipation around
Simic’s signing. He is not to blame. We would have loved to have it another way, but it didn’t work out.”
It appears that Simic will be recalled in January, thus it is critical that they select the best loan club for him in the
coming year. If he wants to return fired up for the summer, he needs goals and games. Furthermore, Cardiff is
already facing a seismic window, so the introduction of this Simic issue is probably unnecessary.
