Two people have been detained after a baby girl was assaulted by a dog suspected to be an XL bully.
Kent Police said they were called to Siskin Close in Hawkinge, near Folkestone, at 2.23pm on Wednesday after receiving a report that an eight-month-old had been bitten by a dog suspected to be a banned breed.
Ambulance services responded to the site, and the newborn was taken to a London hospital, where she is now in critical condition, police said.
The dog was seized and slaughtered, and an 18-year-old guy and a 76-year-old lady were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control canine, the police said.
They remain in detention while investigations continue.
A representative for Kent Police stated, “Officers will remain in the area while enquiries are conducted and to provide reassurance to the local community.”
Ownership of the XL bully breed without an exemption certificate became a criminal crime in England and Wales on February 1st, 2025.
