Gary O’Neil, the manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers, is under a lot of pressure in the west Midlands after the team lost yet another Premier League match. As a result, chairman Jeff Shi reportedly offered Fenerbahce £5 million in compensation in an attempt to hire Jose Mourinho as their new manager. O’Neil was on the verge of leaving after the team lost to West Ham United in a match known as “El Sackico,” and while reports have indicated that club executives have given him a vote of confidence, new names have been mentioned, which has led to Mourinho being considered for the position in the Black Country.
Report: Wolves Offer Fenerbahce ‘Fee’ For Mourinho Appointment
According to AS Marca, Wolves has offered Fenerbahce £5 million to hire Mourinho as their new manager, with O’Neil’s job on the line following yet another Premier League defeat.
Given that Mourinho has been referred to as “elite,” Wolves want to get him to Molineux “as soon as possible.” The Portuguese manager is among the finest in the world at producing success with a defensive attitude.
Wolves’ 14th-place position from the previous season clearly demonstrates that Mourinho would prefer to take over a bottom-half team that wasn’t in European play and turn them back into a top-half team if he were to return to England.
Wolves won two straight games, one away against Fulham and one at home against bottom boys Southampton. However, they have subsequently dropped their last three games, and with 38 goals given up in just 15 games, it is clear that something needs to be done.
Mourinho is well-versed in the English top division, having won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and three League Cup winners’ medals during his two stints at Chelsea. He also won the League Cup and a Europa League trophy at Manchester United before spending eighteen months at Tottenham Hotspur.
His victory rate has been excellent, with 715 of his 1,156 games played so far being victories. Although his tenure at Wolves is unlikely to match his 61.85% win percentage, his skill could be sufficient to defeat other teams in the relegation fight.
