Pereira: “We will be confident against Club Brugge KV”
Sporting Clube de Portugal will play Club Brugge KV in Belgium on Tuesday as part of their UEFA Champions League campaign. João Pereira held a press conference at the Jan Breydelstadion, the match location, following his arrival in Belgium.
The coach noted that the midweek game presents another opportunity to turn his team’s fortunes after three consecutive defeats.
“We will face a squad that has not lost in ten games, and Sporting CP has not had particularly good success here, in Belgium, or in European competitions. We want to be the first Sporting CP team to win here, and it will push us for the rest of the season. He began by remarking, “There is still a long way to go.”
The coach stated that he will be missing midfielders Daniel Bragança and Hidemasa Morita, who are both injured. Henrique Arreiol, João Simões, Alexandre Brito, and Mauro Couto have been called up to fill the roster.
“Youngsters can play. There may be some tweaking, but the team will play in the same manner. He emphasized the importance of players understanding their teammates’ roles and being prepared for any situation.
“I know them well, and [João] Simões has been involved in the first team’s work for a long time, even before I was the coach.” I’m also very confident in [Henrique] Arreiol, Mauro [Couto], and [Alexandre] Brito, whether they come in later or play from the start.”
Pereira stated that “We will be confident, as we were with Moreirense FC” when discussing his attitude. We may not have played our greatest football, but we were the superior team, had more opportunities, and could have won. I witnessed a completely different team than against CD Santa Clara: more eager and determined to win. “With that eagerness, we even broke the game up more than we should have,” he claimed.
“The players will be confident, and we will fight for the victory, which would virtually guarantee a spot in the playoffs.” We don’t need to think much about it. We will come in confident, focused, aware, and prepared to control the game for the majority of the time.”
Regarding the recent unfavorable results, Pereira stated that he will “stand up and be counted, regardless of what happens.” The position I have represents the greatest vote of confidence possible.”
“My life has never been easy, and if I couldn’t manage the strain, I wouldn’t be here now. When I first started playing, they thought I was tiny, small, and would never be successful in football – fortunately, I had the career I had. The early years of coaching were difficult. We were in the bottom with the Under-23s, but after three years, we had an excellent season and were one point away from winning the championship. That led to my being considered the future of Sporting CP. A coach’s life is built around outcomes, and if they don’t appear, it’s natural to have criticism and misgivings.”
“Everybody is pulling in the same direction. I cannot have any uncertainties about what I believe and what I want the team to do. He said, “I am confident that the future will be far better than the past.”
