Movement in and out of Celtic Park is on the cards in January
The president of the Honduran Football Association has warned fringe player Luis Palma that he must leave Celtic in order to increase his playing opportunities.
The 24-year-old is trying to make an impact in his second season at Celtic Park, and Brendan Rodgers has mostly used him as a substitute this season, with his last game for the Scottish Premiership leaders coming at the end of October in a win over Dundee. It has fuelled rumours about the winger’s future, with Jorge Salomon pushing the Honduran international to evaluate his options.
He told Diario La Prensa: “We hope that players like Palma are fortunate enough to be given more continuity, whether at Celtic or elsewhere.” He is a really courteous, dedicated youngster who supports the national team, takes care of himself, and is highly involved in this topic.
“I hope he has the good fortune that the club he plays for can give him more playing time, which will be important for him and the growth of the national team. As well as others.”
If Rodgers wants a successor, he may have to compete for Hammarby forward Bazoumana Toure. The 18-year-old has reportedly been scouted by the Hoops, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Bayer Leverkusen in recent months.
Sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg has opened the door for the attacker, telling podcast Lundh: “Believe it or not. I believe it will begin to move properly by the end of December, or especially in January. However, I would not be surprised if he had offers before Christmas.
“Yes, they are contacting his agents, of course. Some clubs have also approached us. Then there are new clubs being reported in the media on a daily basis that I am unaware of.
“But there are quite a few. That’s how things are. Many clubs have enquired about him, and many more are curious about the expense of purchasing him.”
Pressed on how much it would cost to land the attacker, the hosts floated a €12million (£9.8m) price tag. Hjelmberg responded: “At least.”
A surprising speculation in Germany suggests that Celtic may make a move to re-sign Jonjoe Kenny. In 2021, the right-back had an unsuccessful loan spell at Celtic Park from Everton. The 27-year-old’s contract with Hamburg, the 2. Bundesliga club, expires at the conclusion of the season.
According to Bild, the Hoops and Bournemouth are both interested in the defender, who might move in January to allow the German club to recuperate a transfer price. However, we’re treating this with suspicion…
