Gary O’Neil dodged a bullet not signing ‘super talent’ for Wolves – his £20m move has backfired

The biggest surprise for fans is that Gary O’Neil is still employed at Molineux even though they have seen their team win just twice this season and have the worst defensive record in the league.

Wolves, whose faith in the 41-year-old still baffles most fans, are supporting O’Neil for the match against Ipswich and the games that follow.

Fosun’s terrible transfer policy, in which the team decided to sell off their most prized assets rather than make squad investments, hasn’t benefited O’Neil.

In recent years, the Wanderers have fallen down the Premier League table using this tactic, and relegation may be imminent if they are not careful.

But occasionally, Wolves have benefited from not spending a lot of money on a player, as demonstrated by their decision to pass on signing Jack Clarke in the summer.

Wolves dodged a huge bullet as Jack Clarke struggles at Ipswich

O’Neil was searching for a successor for Pedro Neto, who in August paid £54 million to join Chelsea.

After destroying defenses for Sunderland in the Championship with 15 goals and four assists, Clarke was one man on Wolves’ transfer list.

Clarke, who was beyond of Wolves’ price range, was offered £30 million by Sunderland, and in August, he finally agreed to a late £20 million transfer to Ipswich Town.

Tony Mowbray called Clarke a “super talent,” but he hasn’t yet shown off his extraordinary abilities in the Premier League.

After witnessing the 24-year-old fail to score in 13 Premier League games and only provide one assist, Ipswich supporters have become dissatisfied with his final product.

Indeed, judging by his form so far, Wolves dodged a bullet not signing the Englishman, although he could come back to haunt O’Neil this weekend.

Where Wolves must strengthen in the January transfer window

During the January transfer window, Wolves anticipate a lot of activity both inside and beyond the club.

Regarding departures, Sevilla is interested in Pablo Sarabia, while European teams are contacting Hwang Hee-chan about a transfer.

The Wanderers are more concerned with adding fresh players to the team.To finally replace captain Max Kilman, Wolves has put a center-back on their transfer wishlist.

After Carlos Forbs and Rodrigo Gomes have struggled since joining, they may possibly be searching the market for a new winger.

Given the uncertainty surrounding O’Neil’s future at Wolves, it is unclear who will be in charge during the January transfer window and whether any deals will be made to keep them in the league.
