Adam Pope, a BBC journalist, expressed his surprise at Daniel Farke’s decision to start Mateo Joseph ahead of Bamford after dropping Joel Piroe against Middlesbrough at Elland Road on Tuesday, December 10. Pope believes that decision could be a sign of the 31-year-old’s waning influence at Thorp Arch ahead of a January departure. Leeds transfer rumours are shared after Farke contact.
Farke won’t acknowledge it, but Pope believes the move may indicate the 31-year-old’s diminishing impact at Thorp Arch in preparation for a January departure.
“To not pick him ahead of Joseph for a big game tonight – he’s the one who didn’t perform against Boro when he did get his first start and only start this season earlier on in the campaign – that sort of says something, doesn’t it, of where Farke sees Bamford maybe,” he said on BBC Radio Leeds [10 December, 7:30 pm].
He won’t acknowledge that he can’t cast him out, will he? But you wonder, is there anything going on with Patrick Bamford in January?
Under Farke, Bamford, who has been a mainstay at Elland Road since moving from Boro in 2018, has struggled to get playing time this year.
The former Chelsea player only made one appearance, on August 14, when the Whites lost 3-0 to Michael Carrick’s team in the EFL Cup.
It is now clear that Farke prefers Piroe and Joseph to Bamford in the hierarchy.
Ahead of the January transfer window, Leeds is also said to have expressed interest in Maccabi Tel Aviv forward Dor Turgeman
Therefore, when the window opens in four weeks, Bamford ought to think about leaving the West Yorkshire team.
