Three Championship goalkeepers who fit the bill for Wrexham as Phil Parkinson battles EFL for emergency deal

Phil Parkinson isn’t giving up on finding new players, even though Wrexham has added another free agent.

Wrexham earned a valuable road victory on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Burton Albion 1-0.

Elliot Lee’s corner kick went all the way into the net to win the game, and Wrexham supporters applauded him for it.

Lee’s “freakish” goal was cursed by Burton Albion’s Udoka Godwin-Malife, but Wrexham won’t care because it’s still three points for them.

However, things aren’t perfect for Wrexham because goalie Phil Parkinson is still having problems.

Goalkeeping situation for Wrexham

It is anticipated that Arthur Okonkwo won’t be able to return until early 2025 after suffering a wrist injury in November.

In Okonkwo’s absence, Callum Burton performed outstanding, and Wrexham appeared to be in capable hands.

Mark Howard will start against Burton Albion because of Burton’s thigh injury, which Parkinson worries may end his season.

Brad Foster, a free agent, joined Wrexham after reportedly making an impression during recent training sessions.

Parkinson is fighting the EFL over whether Wrexham can make an emergency loan signing in goal, but he still wants another Wrexham player.

We looked at a few fringe Championship goalkeepers who might be looking for a call from Wrexham to compete for first-team duty over the holiday season, but that scenario hasn’t been settled yet.

Timothee Lo-Tutala

With Ivor Pandur and Anthony Racioppi competing for the starting number one shirt, Hull City has plenty of goalkeeping alternatives.

Carl Rushworth would also be considered, although he is presently injured.

As a result, Timothee Lo-Tutala has fallen in the hierarchy and hasn’t even been substituted for a first-team match this year.

A League One loan might be the 21-year-old’s next move after a successful loan stint at Doncaster Rovers the previous season.

Lo-Tutala’s utterly absurd stop to deny Steven Fletcher in injury time during Doncaster’s 1-0 victory against Wrexham in April may stick in the minds of Wrexham supporters.

Lo-Tutala’s previous League Two experience would make him a good match for Wrexham.

Harvey Cartwright

Cartwright, another goalie for Hull, shares Lo-Tutala’s situation of being marginalized.

Cartwright played for Grimsby Town the previous season, but he wasn’t as good as Lo-Tutala at Doncaster.

With his development stalling at Hull, the 22-year-old needs another loan opportunity, and a brief stay at Wrexham would be appealing.

Cartwright, like Lo-Tutala, earned three Young Player of the Year awards at Grimsby last season, and after his League Two stint, a League One move might be the next step.

Connal Trueman

Stopper for Millwall The emergency loan scenario is nothing new to Trueman.

This season, Trueman has been on emergency loans to Crawley Town twice in order to help with their issues.

Given that Millwall was willing to loan him out twice and that the 28-year-old pleased Crawley, Wrexham would undoubtedly have a chance at a deal.

It’s important to keep in mind that Millwall might not want Trueman to have played for two teams prior to January, preventing a third from permanently leaving.

Since joining Millwall in 2022, Trueman has not appeared in a single game, therefore his chances of playing for the Lions are slim.

The EFL is now in charge of this matter, but even if Parkinson is fighting for a new player, the rules state that Wrexham cannot sign a loan player until Howard also has an injury. This might greatly irritate the Wrexham manager.
