Being a professional football player requires a great deal of skill and good fortune. Even more so to succeed with
Liverpool as a professional football player.
Therefore, you would set aside any personal loyalties if you were given the opportunity to play for the Reds. Similar
to Jordan Rossiter, who initially did so grudgingly.
On this day in 2015, Rossiter, who is currently 27 and plays for League One Shrewsbury Town, had his fifth and only
appearance for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s team lost 0-0 to Sion on the road in the Europa League.
After joining the Reds’ youth at age six, the midfielder progressed through the ranks and made his first-team debut
at the age of seventeen, scoring the first goal in a thrilling 14–13 Carabao Cup penalty shootout victory over
Middlesbrough. Before being dismissed in 2016, the veteran would go on to make four more senior-level outings.
Although Rossiter’s time with Liverpool is now finished, Salford City manager Karl Robinson brought up his
activities when he was a member of the team.
Before joining MK Dons, Charlton Athletic, and Oxford United as a manager, Robinson started his coaching career
with the Reds’ academy. He will always be a Red. Not like Rossiter.
Robinson stated on the I Had Trails Once podcast, “We also had Jordan Rossiter, who was a massive Blue Nose.”
“We had to forbid him from wearing an Everton uniform in the gym since he was such a huge supporter. He detested
Liverpool so much that he would only wear his Celtic uniform since he couldn’t stand to wear a Liverpool one.
He was such a huge Everton supporter that he refused to wear the Liverpool uniform, which is not unusual given
how many local youngsters in the Liverpool academy would have been Everton supporters.
“Everton’s academy would have had boys who were huge Liverpool supporters, and I’m sure it would have been the
same there.”
In his early football career, Robinson also worked with Trent Alexander-Arnold. He talked about what it was like to
work with the current Reds No. 66.
