Birmingham City manager Chris Davies praised Lukas Jutkiewicz’s performance this season.
Birmingham City’s striker has been patiently waiting for opportunities this season.
Jutkiewicz, 35, helped the Blues win 2-0 at Barnsley over the weekend. Jay Stansfield scored both goals at Oakwell.
Davies has said, as per a report by BirminghamLive: “I can only speak with huge respect for Lukas Jutkiewicz. Despite being out of the squad all season, he was able to come in against Blackpool and perform well against Barnsley due to his unique training style and hard work.
“He is a lesson to every footballer in a squad or a team on how to act. When you get the opportunity, you seize it, so all credit to him.
“If there was one person that transformed the game, Jukey increased the dimension of our attack, and Jay certainly got the goals. We were able to keep the ball in the opposition’s half and play a series of passes to relieve pressure. That was entirely his responsibility, so credit to him.”
Birmingham City man is lauded
Jutkiewicz has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, four of which have been in the league, and he has scored one goal.
He is a valuable addition to their roster, bringing experience to the team.
The veteran is competing for a starting spot with Stansfield, Alfie May, and Lyndon Dykes, which is why his game time has been limited.
However, his performance against Barnsley demonstrated his continued ability to provide challenges for opponents.
He joined Birmingham City in 2016 on a loan deal, which was eventually made permanent.
Jutkiewicz has played 341 games for the Midlands team and scored 68 goals.
His contract will expire at the end of this term, and they will have to make a major choice about his long-term future.
Previously, he played for Swindon Town, Coventry City, Everton, and Middlesbrough.
What now?
Birmingham City’s recent win over Barnsley will boost their confidence.
The Blues will travel to Exeter City on Tuesday night for an EFL Trophy match.
