“They offered nothing” – Mark Goldbridge slams “rubbish” £665k p/w Man Utd trio after Forest.
In Manchester United’s 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest, Mark Goldbridge criticized three attacking substitutes, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee, and Mason Mount, for their lack of performance.
The Red Devils failed to avenge their midweek loss against Arsenal, losing to the Tricky Trees on Saturday. Despite dominating possession, Ruben Amorim’s team failed to capitalize on their chances, placing them 13th in the league rankings.
Goldbridge: Three United substitutes ‘offered nothing’.
After Chris Wood scored a third goal for the visitors, Amorim turned to star wide man Rashford in a desperate attempt to reverse the 3-1 deficit.Bruno Fernandes cut the deficit to one, prompting the manager to bring on Mount and Zirkzee to help with the attack. However, the three attacking substitutes combined for only one shot during their time on the field.
Goldbridge expressed his displeasure with the trio, who earn a total of £665k each week, on YouTube.
“Rashford, Zirkzee, and Mount gave little. I’m not saying they were worse than the people they replaced, but you’re supposed to come off the bench and say, “I want to play.”
“Maguire was alright when he came on, I’ll give him that, but the rest of them, rubbish.”
Rashford and Zirkzee, who scored braces in United’s 4-0 win against Everton in early December, were expected to improve their scoring in the next fixtures. However, neither of the two players started the two games that followed the tie.
Meanwhile, Mount has yet to score a goal or assist in 11 appearances across all competitions this season, and his overall performance has struggled to justify his place on the team.
The setback will strengthen the notion that there is still a lot of work to be done as part of Amorim’s reconstruction initiative. Changes are likely within the squad, but it is critical that Rashford, Zirkzee, and Mount provide something substantial going ahead, considering their high wage demands and ideals. Without them, United will have little hope of rescuing anything from what has been a disappointing season so far.
