Kris Boyd believes the Rangers must immediately offer John Souttar a new contract.
Philippe Clement has stated that contract talks are ongoing, with an offer on the table for the player. However, there has been no more update.
The defender’s contract is up for another 18 months, therefore the club should address this issue as soon as possible.
Boyd feels that obtaining Souttar’s services will be important for the club’s recovery, writing in The Scottish Sun: “He’s got 18 months left on his current deal and this should be sorted as a matter of urgency.”
“Souttar is now very important to Rangers.”
“I don’t get Clement’s ‘on the table’ stuff. Simply get the deal done.
“Souttar is a key player for Rangers. He has been terrific and is improving every week. He is one of the club’s best players and meets all of Gers’ needs for the future.
“Souttar is the best person to construct the defence around. At 28, he has reached his prime. He is Scottish and understands the demands of Ibrox.”
John Souttar is a crucial element of the future of Rangers.
