Prior to 2023–24, Rowe had only made 18 first-team appearances. However, he had a breakthrough season last season, displaying flashes of his potential.
Although they lost to Leeds United in the semi-final, the winger helped Norwich get to the play-offs with 13 goals and four assists in 38 games.
Rowe made the move to Marseille during a summer of upheaval for the Canaries because, despite only having played one complete season, he had enough to attract the attention of clubs.
The 21-year-old was signed on a season-long loan, and Marseille is required to pay £17 million for him, with a sell-on provision included in the agreement.
This seems like a great piece of business from Norwich, who could be the beneficiary of Rowe’s potential performances in Ligue 1.
With this in mind, at Football League World we have opted to look at Jon Rowe’s salary at Marseille and how it compares to what he was earning at Carrow Road. It must be stressed that this is an estimate using Capology’s data-driven system.
Jon Rowe’s earns far more at Marseille
According to Capology, Rowe signed his second professional contract in 2022, earning an estimated £4,615 per week at Norwich. This came to £240,000 over the course of a year, which is a fair amount for a young player who hasn’t established himself.
But since moving to Marseille, his weekly income has increased dramatically. With his current salary of £14,384, he takes home little under £750,000 annually.
Players like Adrien Rabiot and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg earn more than £95,000 a week, thus this is a minor amount when compared to the rest of the Les Olympiens team.
Players that are closer to Rowe in the wage list are Pol Lirola and Ulisses Garcia, who both play a similar amount to the former Canaries forward.
If he can begin to feature more in the near future, then his wage could take a hike as he has some serious potential to show.
Jon Rowe can outperform his Marseille wage
Given that Jon Rowe has only started three Ligue 1 games thus far, it appears Roberto De Zerbi does not entirely trust him to fill one of those winger positions.
Nevertheless, in 377 minutes of play, he has managed two goals and two assists, or one per 94 minutes.
Under the former Brighton head coach, Luis Henrique and Mason Greenwood are flourishing, so Rowe will need to exercise patience and take advantage of his opportunities when they present themselves.
He will undoubtedly be waiting in the wings for a chance if an injury arises, and if he performs well enough, he may be able to earn a starting position.
But, at just 21 years old, he doesn’t need to rush into regular starts; a period away from the spotlight could prove beneficial for his development and the prospect of a future with Marseille.
