MICHAEL Carrick said that there was disappointment in the Middlesbrough dressing room after full-time against Burnley, indicating that the head coach’s side is in fine shape.
Burnley are unbeaten at Turf Moor this season and second in the Championship, but Carrick believes there were no Boro celebrations following Friday night’s 1-1 draw, with his players frustrated not to take all three points.
Boro led through Anfernee Dijksteel, but were pegged back by Connor Roberts’ equaliser eight minutes before halftime.
Burnley dominated the second half, but Boro were brilliant after the break, with George Edmundson, Tommy Conway, Delano Burgzorg, and substitute Emmanuel Latte Lath all having chances to win it for Boro.
Carrick was pleased with how his team responded to the challenge and dealt with the harsh weather, with Storm Darragh making conditions nearly unplayable at points.
Carrick stated: “It was a difficult night to play football. Both teams attempted to make the most of it, and both of us had moments in the game when we played well and appeared dangerous.
Points are points. “The good for us is that we are playing against a team that has given almost nothing away at home this season; being frustrated to only score one goal certainly reflects where we are.
“It’s certainly not a celebration in there; it’s a sense of disappointment and wishing we could have had more. Perhaps they think similarly.
“To come away from home and do what we did, in the conditions as well, we’ll take a lot of positives.”
Carrick continued: “At times, we had to dig in and defend well. It was not always aesthetically pleasing. In certain instances, we appeared both good and dangerous.
“Not so long ago, we might have lost a game like this.” But we grew stronger, and at moments in the second half, I thought we’d get all three points.
