“Very exciting”—reaction” given as Watford FC eye ex-Leicester City attacker

Watford is already planning how to bolster their team in the upcoming weeks as the January transfer window approaches, and Kelechi Iheanacho is the most recent star to be linked to a move to Vicarage Road.

El Sevillista, a Spanish media site, says the Hornets are considering a January trade for the out-of-favor Sevilla player.

Since Watford is in the midst of the promotion race and has a potentially precarious chance of returning to the Premier League, it wouldn’t be shocking if they made a big acquisition this season.

Kelechi Iheanacho may not be the answer for Watford

Kalechi Iheanacho

When we asked our FLW Watford fan analyst Justin Beattie what he thought of a possible trade for Iheanacho, he responded somewhat sceptically.

“Obviously, it’s a pretty exciting name for Watford to be associated with,” he stated. After graduating from Man City’s academy and relocating to Leicester, he is a highly skilled striker.

“While Iheanacho was a kind of a backup to Jamie Vardy while he was at Leicester and played on the break, I simply wonder whether we might truly need someone who can lead the line and hold the ball up.

“The questions, in my opinion, would have to be whether he would switch from being used occasionally as a squad player to starting every week.”

“Also, can he do the job with his back to goal as well as running in behind?

“I would think he probably can, and he would undoubtedly be better than what we’ve got on the book currently, so it’s very exciting to be linked with a player like this.”

Kelechi Iheanacho’s star quality could fire Watford to promotion

Tom Cleverley, Manchester City v Watford

Under Tom Cleverey, Watford is firmly in the running for promotion this season, and while they have some outstanding players, they most likely require a little extra star quality.

Iheanacho would undoubtedly contribute a great deal of offensive skill in the final third, something Watford lacks behind Vakoun Bayo. He has also had experience leaving the league, having done so with Leicester the previous season.

Iheanacho was a bit-part player the previous season, but he has demonstrated enough English football skills to be able to fit right back in. If Watford could get him to start, there would definitely be a number of Championship teams watching in enviously.
