Poku in, Hills out: Norwich City transfers we urge the club to make before February 3rd

Poku in, Hills out: Norwich City transfers we urge the club to make before February 3rd

A successful January transfer window might propel Norwich City into a second consecutive season of qualifying for the playoffs, given their current league standing.

Numerous circumstances have not favoured Johannes Hoff Thorup since he joined City. In addition to losing two of his greatest players in the summer, Jonathan Rowe and Gabriel Sara, he has had to cope with an exasperating string of injuries to important players.

He has managed to assemble a respectably strong Canaries team that appears capable of contending for the play-off spots despite these obstacles. in the moment, they are among the Championship’s most effective attacking sides, with Bojra Sainz in the forefront.

That’s not to say that there is no room for improvement. Norwich’s squad isn’t miles better than any of the teams around them, at least in its current state.

In January, they will be able to address that, to plug any gaps that are yet to be mended, improve areas of the team or shift some deadwood onto somewhere else.

These are two moves that we at Football League World would like to see the Canaries complete before the end of the winter window.

In: Kwame Poku

It is evident that Norwich poses a threat on the left. Sainz has been unable to play for a large portion of the season and has stepped up after Josh Sargent suffered a groin injury.

It’s somewhat different on the other side of the attacking line. There is a need that needs to be filled by a January acquisition like Kwame Poku because no one has been able to secure the right-wing position in the Danish manager’s squad.

So far this season, he has been League One’s equivalent of Norwich’s Spanish lucky charm, scoring goals left, right, and centre. Given that his contract expires in the summer, Peterborough United is probably going to let him go at the beginning of the next year in order

If Norwich do decide to go after the right-winger, they aren’t likely to be alone in the battle. TBR Football reported that Burnley, Ipswich Town, Rangers and Southampton were all eyeing up the Ghanaian ahead of 2025. Still, City should certainly still throw their hat into the Poku ring.

Out: Brad Hills

Whether it’s signing a player who has performed well in a lesser division or those who require more playing time in the remaining games of the season, the loan market offers clubs that are a little lower up the English footballing pyramid the best chances to make January transfers.

The latter of those two describes Brad Hills in Norwich. Only 12 league minutes have been played by the England under-20 international for Hoff Thorup so far this season.

He spent the 2023–2024 season playing 41 games for League Two’s Accrington Stanley after going on loan there. For the 20-year-old, a relocation like that would likely be ideal at this time.

With the likes of Callum Doyle, Shane Duffy and Grant Hanley ahead of him in the central defensive pecking order, his best chance of minutes will come with another club.
