Norwich Player ‘Better’ Than Leicester Star Says Canaries Legend As Deal End Looms
Iwan Roberts believes Norwich City goalkeeper Angus Gunn is better than Leicester City star Danny Ward and can be used as a backup goalkeeper for a Premier League team.
Ward has made just three appearances for Leicester this season, all in EFL Cup matches, and is Mads Hermansen’s backup in the team.
Gunn, the Norwich custodian, is having an amazing season. The Canaries have not yet extended his contract, and it is scheduled to expire in June.
Roberts believes Gunn can play as a backup custodian for a Premier League team and believes he will have plenty of admirers in the transfer market.
The former Leicester player also believes that Gunn of Norwich is a superior goalie to Ward of the Foxes, who is about to reach the last six months of his contract.
“I don’t know where I stand; I don’t know if I’m going to get a contract at the end of the season on the money that I’m on now or maybe an upgraded contract,” Roberts said in his Pink Un column. “If I were Angus, I would be thinking, ‘I don’t know where I stand.
“There won’t be a shortage of clubs interested in signing him if he goes on a free transfer in the summer, whether they want a backup keeper or a regular number one.
“Angus is a better keeper than Danny Ward, and [Tim] Krul was that at Luton, John Ruddy is at Newcastle, and Danny Ward is at Leicester.”
The Scotland international has Premier League playing experience, having joined Norwich from Southampton in 2021.
