Middlesbrough dressing room reaction to Burnley draw says a lot about their positive mentality

Michael Carrick made a telling point about Boro’s current mentality after the Burnley draw

The dressing room response to Friday’s draw at Burnley perfectly captured Middlesbrough’s present mindset.

In challenging circumstances, Boro salvaged a hard-fought point at the home of their promotion rivals after Anfernee Dijksteel’s early opener was nullified by a long-range strike from Connor Roberts. It was a two-half game, with Boro battling Storm Darragh and Burnley’s strom for most of the first half before coming on strong in the second half and having the better chances to win.

“It was a difficult night to play football,” Carrick stated. Both teams made an effort to maximise their chances, and we both had moments during the game when we looked dangerous and played some excellent plays. A point is a point. Playing against a team that has given virtually nothing away at home this season is a plus for us, but we will still be dissatisfied.

“It’s not a celebration in there, but there is some disappointment and a sense that we could have had more. Maybe they think the same things. Given the situation, we’ll benefit greatly from leaving home and taking the actions we did. Sometimes we had to dig in and play good defence. It wasn’t always pretty. We appeared both attractive and menacing.

Not very long ago, we may have lost a game like this. But we got stronger, and there were times when I thought we would win all three points in the second half.
