Gunshots are fired then car smashes through house in Sheffield street – full police statement

Police are investigating after a car slammed into a house in Sheffield, revealing evidence of a shooting.

According to authorities, the crash and shooting on Blackstock Road in Gleadless Valley are likely linked. On Wednesday at 7.25 p.m., police were dispatched to Blackstock Road after receiving reports that a car had off the road and smashed into a property, causing considerable damage.

South Yorkshire Police said the incident was initially regarded as a road traffic collision, but they later discovered further evidence ‘consistent with a weapons discharge’. There are no reports of injuries at this time.
Detective Inspector Claire Moss of the Armed Crime Team said: “I understand that news of this incident will cause concern in the local community, and while we are still in the early stages of our investigation, I want to make it clear that we are working extremely hard to bring those responsible to justice.

“Gun violence is completely unacceptable in South Yorkshire. This will not be permitted. Our officers will be patrolling the area over the weekend, and I encourage anyone who has questions or concerns to contact them directly. They are there to aid and protect you.

“We’re now asking anyone with information to come forward and report it to us. We’d particularly like to hear from anyone who has pertinent video evidence that could aid our investigations.

“Were you in the area on Wednesday night?” Do you have house CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage that could aid our investigations? Even the tiniest piece of information from you could be critical as we put together what happened.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage should contact South Yorkshire Police. Please refer to incident number 849 of December 4, 2024.
