Bristol City fans advised of rare red weather warning for departure to Portsmouth

The most recent weather warning issued by the Met Office is a reminder to Bristol City supporters who are travelling to Portsmouth on Saturday for their most recent Championship match.

The BBC reports that from 3 to 11 a.m. tomorrow, a rare red weather warning for wind has been issued for the western UK, including the Bristol Channel area.

At that moment, the 2,171 Robins supporters will have scheduled their departure timings for the more than 120-mile journey to Fratton Park, which should take roughly two to three hours.

City has sold out its entire allocation for their first visit to Fratton Park since March 2012, and the south coast match kicks off at 3pm.

Red weather warnings are the most serious issued by the Met Office. They are only communicated when dangerous, potentially life-threatening weather is anticipated.

An amber weather warning, as a result of Storm Darragh, is in place over Bristol after 11am until 9pm on Saturday night. That means fans attending Bristol Rovers’ League One game against Bolton at the Memorial Stadium should also be aware of the potential for damaging winds speeds that could be a ‘danger to life’

Supporters of the Robins should be informed that a yellow weather warning has been issued for the south coast when they arrive in Portsmouth. That will take effect from 3 p.m. today and run through 6 a.m. on Sunday.

Although winds of 50 mph or more are predicted between 3 and 5 p.m., the Portsmouth News reported Thursday night that the Portsmouth team has no immediate plans to cancel the game. As the most recent storm to pound Britain makes its presence known, there is also a 70% chance of rain during kickoff.

Following an 11 a.m. pitch inspection at Ewood Park, the decision was made to cancel Portsmouth’s Saturday, November 23 trip to Blackburn Rovers due to Storm Bert.
