Two years on, Rangers linked star in 6 superclub £66m transfer battle.
Xavi Simons, a former Rangers target, is currently negotiating a transfer fee of up to €80 million [£66 million].
Simons, a Dutch international, is currently under contract with Paris Saint-Germain but is on loan at RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga.
The player, who was formerly in the sights of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, is poised to leave France permanently next year.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, this might apply to any club, including Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid.
Ornstein stated, “Paris Saint-Germain has all alternatives regarding Xavi Simons. Nothing has been decided about his future, and much can change before the summer.
“Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are viewed as the most likely destinations, with Manchester United expressing interest in the previous market.
“PSG see Simons as a fantastic chance in either case; they can keep a top player or trade him for a large profit. Unless something goes wrong, his estimated transfer fee is at least €80 million [£66 million].
When Simons initially left PSG to join PSV Eindhoven in 2022, van Bronckhorst was rumored to be interested in the player.
The former Rangers manager is thought to have formally approached Simons in the summer following the Ibrox club’s Europa League final appearance.
