Lineker: Wolves to sack O’Neil after what he did in Everton MOTD interview

In an interview with Match of the Day after Wolves’ 4-0 loss to Everton, Gary Lineker expressed his belief that Wolves will fire Gary O’Neil due to his actions.

The Blues crushed the visitors at Goodison Park, and the match was considered a “six-pointer” because of the ramifications for the relegation fight.

Prior to the encounter, the Toffees had failed to score in four Premier League games, but Ashley Young and Dwight McNeil came through when the team most needed it.

The day’s match [MOTD, 1:00:57] Lineker acknowledged that he would not be shocked if O’Neil was fired because of his deplorable demeanour during the interview: “Gary O’Neil’s demeanour there looked like he was thought that he was gone.”

Micah Richards agreed, saying: “When a manager starts talking like that, ‘the club is bigger than me’, it looks like the writings on the wall”

Relief for Everton and Dyche after Wolves win

Blues manager Sean Dyche was under a lot of pressure going into the game because his team had lost their last five games and had failed to score in their previous four.

With a difficult festive schedule that includes Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea in their next four games, the match against Wolves was emphasised as a “must-win.”

It was vitally important that the Toffees defeat a struggling team, and they magnificently accomplished this.

In the near term, the win will ease some of Dyche’s pressure, but it might just be a short-term respite based on how things go in that awful run of games.

According to reports, the Friedkin Group has begun exploring their alternatives in anticipation of their takeover and wants to replace the former Burnley player.

Dyche is still in the dugout for the time being, though, and supporters will be hoping that this outcome provides the Blues impetus going into Saturday’s (7 December) Merseyside derby.
