Brendan Rodgers refuted any suggestion that the league title is already decided after Celtic’s 1-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie moved them seven points clear at the top of the SPFL table.
In his post-match interview, the Celtic manager was asked if the title had already won because of the gap at the top, but Rodgers declined to fall for the ploy. Rather, he reaffirmed his emphasis on upholding norms and overcoming the obstacles in what he called a protracted fight.
“With 38 games left, it’s not even close to being finished,” Rodgers told the BBC. “I know that’s how some people will see it, but we still have a long way to go.”
The head coach of the Hoops made it apparent that the team does not tolerate complacency. “We’re trying to play well and finish the games, but the players aren’t thinking about that [title].” Winning is a big part of our culture, and we realize that in order to achieve that, we must put in a lot of effort both on and off the field.
Rodgers’ cool-headed approach demonstrated his ability to handle expectations and pressure. Rodgers was anxious to emphasize that the title fight is far from over, even if Celtic has amassed an enviable advantage, particularly with opponents dropping points in recent weeks.
Reo Hatate’s goal and Cameron Carter-Vickers‘ vital block completed the victory at Pittodrie, demonstrating Celtic’s capacity to produce victories under trying conditions. Rodgers is well aware, though, that there are still months of football left.
Supporters who understand that nothing is assured in December will appreciate the manager’s realistic viewpoint. Rodgers and his squad have a lot of games left, and they are intent on being consistent and extending their winning streak.
