Al-Hamadi 2.0: Ipswich could sign £5m Clarke rival in promising EFL star

Kieran McKenna’s team has performed admirably while playing against some of the Premier League’s top teams,

such as Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, but has been a little lackluster when playing against more vulnerable

teams, such as Leicester City and West Ham United.

The Tractor Boys’ 1-0 home loss to struggling Crystal Palace on Tuesday night followed that trend, and although they

weren’t completely destroyed, it was still a very depressing outcome.

Jack Clarke was one of McKenna’s team’s poorest players; he simply hasn’t looked like himself this season, and if

rumors are to be believed, he may soon have more competition thanks to a transfer similar of Ali Al-Hamadi’s..

Clarke’s struggles this season

Ipswich opted to pay Sunderland £15m for Clarke this summer, and while that’s a lot of money for someone who had

never played in the Premier League before, it was understandable based on his form for the Black Cats.

For instance, in 92 games during the 22–23 and 23–24 seasons, the York native, dubbed the “diamond” by former

manager Tony Mowbray, scored an incredible 26 goals and made 18 assists.

Unquestionably impressive for a wide winger, the former Leeds United prospect averaged a goal involvement per

2.19 games, which is definitely good enough to earn a transfer to the top division.

But for whatever reason, the Englishman’s incredible play for Sunderland hasn’t carried over to Suffolk, and as of

right now, he’s only contributed one assist in 13 games, which is simply insufficient.

.In his defense, it’s unlikely that his talent has vanished overnight, and he may eventually return to the explosive

heights he achieved in the northeast. However, McKenna needs a backup wideman to cover for Sammie Szmodics
when he needs a break, so it would make sense to sign a competitor for Clarke.
