WORLD WIDE WEB My dad played for Rangers and Scotland and lifted the Scottish Cup – now I plan to follow in his footsteps at Ibrox.

He’s already making progress in his quest to emulate his father. RANGERS B captain Kristian Webster is determined to follow in the footsteps of his father, Andy, and carve himself a great playing career. And with the former Scotland captain’s wisdom and mentoring, Webster intends to outperform his father. Andy Webster, who is now the Academy Director at Hearts, represented his country 28 times, won the Scottish Cup with Dundee United and the Jambos, and shined for Rangers, albeit his spell at Ibrox was marred by injuries.

However, he made 475 club appearances during his career and Webster insists it is great to tap into his dad’s knowledge as he strives to make it in the game.

Webster said: “My dad has been a great help because he’s gone through that before and I’m just trying to follow in his footsteps and even become better than what he was.

“He has guided me every step of the way. And whenever I need an answer from him or ask for assistance, he’s more than willing to sit down with me, go through video, or just watch games to try to help me grow.” Webster admits that he has always been a defender, like his father. And he enjoys setting a challenge or organising his teammates from the heart of defence. He stated, “It’s simply my kind of natural position. It’s where I enjoy playing the most; I adore the defensive aspect of football.

As much as playing on the ball is now an important part of the game, I enjoy making tackles and organising the squad; those are some of my strengths.” The 19-year-old aims to break into Philippe Clement’s squad and says that Rangers B players are encouraged by teammate Bailey Rice’s first-team debut in the Gers’ Europa League victory against Nice. He stated, “That is everyone’s aspiration, and that is why you are here. You want to make the first team squad; otherwise, there is no use in doing so.

“So everyone is trying to get into that position. So clearly, the boys are disappointed. “We had good opportunities, scored a goal, and hit the post.
