Why Celtic paid that money…’ Barry Ferguson issues honest verdict on Auston Trusty

Celtic can pull further away at the top of the Premiership table on Wednesday night at Aberdeen.

Brendan Rodgers’ side hold a four-point lead at the top – with a game in hand – and will be backing themselves to secure three points at Pittodrie.

Liam Scales was one of the guys to come into the XI – for Auston Trusty – and he proceeded to score after previously being benched by the American.

Everyone knows Cameron Carter-Vickers is the main man at the back for Celtic and has usually stood alongside the Irishman.

But Scales can count himself unfortunate, not because he has been benched for doing anything wrong, but because of how Trusty has come in and seemingly taken things to the next level.

Trusty was on Arsenal’s books as a youngster and he also played for Sheffield United in the Premier League, so none of this should be a surprise.

The 26-year-old can also operate across the backline, but so far, the Bhoys have only seen him in action at the heart of the defence.

Now that he is settled in, Barry Ferguson told Go Radio that ‘you are starting to see the quality’ and he is also proving ‘why Celtic paid that money’ to bring him in.

“Now, he is starting to get game time, he is playing week in and week out, you can see him getting stronger and stronger,” said Ferguson.

“He is a big and powerful guy. He is quick and has been a good signing for Celtic, there is no doubt about that. You are starting to see the quality and the reason why Celtic paid that money.”

Trusty’s stats for Celtic

There is still a long way to go for Trusty, including scoring his first goal and winning that first trophy in those famous green and white colours.

Celtic play Rangers in the League Cup final later this month, so he won’t have too long to wait.

But so far, it’s a thumbs up for what he is producing, with WhoScored rating his performances at 7.24 in the Premiership so far
