Mill Architects Limited have designed a two storey church building alongside a church hall for The Edinburgh Christian Community with the help of renowned Swiss architect Johannes Sloendregt.
Edinburgh Council has received plans for the construction of a new church and hall on Napier Road in the city.
Mill Architects Limited has designed a two-story church building and a church hall for the Edinburgh Christian Community.
The Christian Community is a liberal and esoterically oriented Christian denomination founded in 1922.
It is expected that the proposed development site will have planning authorization in principle starting in 2022.
As part of the application, those behind the ideas stated: “”The Georgian villa at 21 Napier Road has been continuously used as a site of religious celebration by the Christian Community for 60 years, and we have lived in harmony with our neighbors. However, the building is not well-suited for its intended use.Access via two sets of exterior stairs is challenging for the disabled and not easily improved. Heating the building is tough and expensive, as is maintaining it.
“Looking ahead, we are delighted about the prospect of a purpose-built church on the same location, with room for a growing congregation, adequate disability access, and a social space available for local community use. The facility would be built to high energy efficiency standards, making it easier to maintain.
“We have the largest undeveloped garden in Polwarth, and we want to keep this connection to nature. We would sell our old property to pay the move while maintaining an enormous garden to surround our new church.
“That connection with nature is part of the Christian Community’s traditions, and this location is ideal for the proposed church.” We were thrilled to engage our Swiss Architect, who has vast experience in building churches.”Johannes Sloendregt originally became involved with our initiative when traveling in the United Kingdom about six years ago. He is an internationally famous architect with extensive expertise designing and developing unique and stunning structures with modern, highly functional, and visually appealing forms.
“As part of the brief, we seek to build to the highest ecological standards and a design that Polwarth will be proud of.”
