According to analyst Kevin Gallacher, Blackburn Rovers are a ‘dangerous’ counter-attacking club.
In their most recent Championship match, Blackburn Rovers defeated Leeds United 1-0 at home, with attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell scoring the winning penalty in the first half at Ewood Park.
John Eustace’s side is now in eighth place in the table, only two points behind the play-offs, as they aim to climb into the top six. Following their victory over the Whites, Gallacher told BBC Sport Lancashire on X: “They are deadly on the counter attack.
They can now protect; they’ve learnt to defend in numbers. They still have a lot of work to do; it will be interesting to see what happens when smaller teams come here and don’t press as hard as Leeds United. That will make the difference. The work rate, desire, and what they are demonstrating to the boss is fantastic.”
Blackburn Rovers verdict rendered.
Blackburn Rovers have now held two consecutive clean sheets against Middlesbrough and Leeds United, winning both games. They will be confident as they try to maintain their momentum this winter and make a strong bid for the top six.
Eustace’s side remained in the league on the final day of the previous season, defeating previously promoted Leicester City.
The Lancashire club then lost top scorer Sammie Szomodics to Ipswich Town in the summer, which was a disappointment.
However, they have had a strong start to the season and are aiming for a spot in the playoffs.
Eustace has done an excellent job since his arrival last season, and Blackburn Rovers’ decision to hire him after his unexpected dismissal by Birmingham City has paid off handsomely.
As Gallacher mentioned, they are a threat on the counterattack and were able to withstand Leeds United’s onslaught last time out.
What’s next?
Blackburn Rovers are in high spirits, and there is a positive vibe around the club right now. They return to play this weekend, travelling to the MKM Stadium to face Hull City, hoping to make it four wins in a row.
Eustace’s men face a Tigers team that has been in poor form recently and has fallen into the bottom three alongside QPR and Portsmouth. They are also without a manager.
