Semedo claims he assumed a goal kick had been awarded when he pointed to the spot, so he cheered the decision before being booked.
According to a Wolves official, he stated: “To be honest, it was not on my mind. I was furious with the referee because I felt it was a goal kick, so I was just applauding him for his decision when he abruptly gave me the yellow card without even allowing me to try to offer an explanation.
“I wanted to let him know that’s not me, even though I knew I already received a yellow card and that wouldn’t alter. He stated it was a penalty, but I thought it was a goal kick, so I’m not clapping. I will not do it because I am not that type of player card.
O’Neil must be so annoyed over Semedo suspension
O’Neil, who has been properly critical of officiating standards since he joined Wolves, will be furious about this misunderstanding, which is really aggravating.
It was just unnecessary for it to occur. If Semedo had simply committed a cynical foul on a Bournemouth player, the Wolves boss would have had an easier time accepting it.
However, under pretty absurd circumstances, he lost a player he genuinely values for the match against Everton.

Amid rumors that Semedo may leave Wolves, O’Neil stated in the summer that he was “desperate” to retain him there.
