Watford Junction take top spot as Herts’ most used station

Watford Junction has retaken its top spot as the county’s busiest station – prompting renewed calls to improve it.

St Albans City Station was Hertfordshire’s most utilized station last year, but slipped behind the new leader by 156,152 admissions and exits, according to the most recent data given by the Office of Rail and Road last month.

It reveals that there were just under 6.5 million admissions and exits at Watford Junction from 2023 to 2024, up around a million from the previous year but still much below the pre-Covid peak of 8.5 million.
“It needs a pretty radical look at how it works.”

With utilization swiftly recovering from the lockdown decrease, he advised that prospective pre-Covid modifications, such as a new entry and internal tunnel enhancements, be actively considered.

Watford Junction commuters most frequently traveled to or from London Euston, with 3.1 million making the trip.
